HOLIDAY TIME

LAST DAY OF SUMMER SCHOOOLLL!!! I am officially on my holidays after 3 weeks of volunteer work! I’m going out for a big meal with all the zoo folk to celebrate which is nice. I also had a good physio sesh and got some more exercises to do - he even showed me that I CAN squat if I put a wee platform under my heels to counteract my rubbish ankle flexibility! So yes, there will be food, beer and general merriment on my part this evening. Then for the next 4 weeks before I go to Florida I will slowly build up my running! Happy days!

Heat wave!

So the Scottish heat wave continues! I’m actually loving it (except at night where I just cannot cope with the sweating).

So after the zoo today I came home, chillaxed and then went for a run in the sun! I ran for 30 minutes which is one of my longer runs outside in ages! My leg hurt a little, but nothing major. Different muscles hurt after a run than used to, so I guess this means I’m finally running normally?! Who knew you were meant to use quads for running?! Then I did a mini workout in the garden, of Russian twists, push ups, and windmills.

Then went to Mikeys to watch the penultimate ep of VIKINGS. I’ve decided Lagatha is my idol because she is badass.

OOOOft Leg Day

So I learned what it means to squat today. I have been struggling with getting down low enough to do a squat with the bar, so I have been working on putting the 20 kg bar on my back and just sitting down and standing up off a bench. Then I got a 12 kg kettle bell and used it to counterbalance my weight to squat as low as possible! OOFT that burned! Then attempted some deadlifts with the bar, but again I’m not sure I can get my bum down low enough to do it safely. Also did some one-legged squats (20 kg), kettle bell swings (12 kg) + leg press machine (35 kg).

I started my workout with a 5k run on the treadmill, but my leg is hurting again (physio on Friday) so I just ran really slow (9 kph) but put the incline up to between 2-3%. Not a very good workout, but I didn’t want to push my injury. 

I just watched an episode of MTV’s I Used to be Fat and OMG the girl lost 62 lbs in 65 days, and in one day she burned 7000 calories. WTF. Machine much!

22/07/14 Iyengar Yoga

My first official yoga class today! £8 for 90 mins at Iyengar Yoga in Edinburgh. Very good beginners class - all equipment provided and instructions were very clear. The focus was on ensuring the poses were performed correctly, rather than successfully! I had to build a very tall pile of bolsters to lean my head on for the Prasarita Padottanasana (hands-to-feet pose), and Uttanasana (standing forward bend). I think it is worth going to a couple of classes to get the poses down properly so i dont twinge anything, but essentially I see no reason why this isn’t something I can do a couple of times a week at home! Promising stuff!
